On Our Trail

A fledging group

We’ve been up to a lot since we first decided on getting together as a group. In fact, our first bird walk on July 1st and our march in the Northside July 4th Parade took place BEFORE our first official planning meet-up on July 10th!

PBW has been hosting weekly bird & nature walks every Sunday morning through Burnet Woods.  Walkers were treated to watching a family of Cooper’s Hawks fledge their four (4)! hawklets in the valley area next to the Trailside Nature Center through all of July and early August, in addition to other sightings.

Starting in August, UC’s Dr. Denis Conover began hosting a monthly botany and plant walk. Did you know that there are persimmon, black cherry and pawpaw trees in Burnet Woods? Or that there is a truly MASSIVE cottonwood near the Ludlow trail entrance?

Our work on keeping Burnet Woods green has not been limited to the boundaries of the woods. In addition to our walks, members have spoken out repeatedly at the monthly Park Board meetings (which are held the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Park Board Building in Eden Park, 9am and open to the public). We have attended neighborhood council meetings for CTM and CUF. Most recently we were able to present our own mission statement at the 8/13 Community Conversation meeting in Corryville prior to scheduled presentations by the two organizations looking to develop the Park. We are working hard to be heard! Raise your voice with us!
